Thanks for checking out my site!
I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing, University of Ottawa and an academic mentor in the Palliative Care and Nursing Ethics Hub, a subsidiary of the Centre for Research on Health and Nursing – a partnership between the Canadian Nurses Association and the University of Ottawa. My program of research focuses on the intersection of organizational life and ethical, relational and political nursing practice. My PhD research was a critical organizational analysis of nurses experiences of rapid and continuous change, which brought to light what is at stake (nurses moral and relational practice) when the increasing infiltration of managerial and neoliberal agendas into healthcare is taken for granted. My work is grounded in critical theory, critical management studies (a branch of critical theory), feminism and relational ethics. My research incorporates qualitative research methodology to understand how nurses’ experience and navigate their practice within highly complex healthcare systems. I hold specialty certification in hospice and palliative care from the Canadian Nurses Association. I have worked clinically in pediatric oncology, hematology, bone marrow transplant, and nephrology, often within the context of palliation.
My research interests include:
- Nursing ethics
- Institutional ethics
- Moral distress
- Moral habitat
- Corporatization of care
- Pediatric nursing practice
- Palliative and end of life nursing practice
- Nursing mental health and pyschological safety
My vision for this site is to create a way to connect with others who share a strong commitment to nursing practice, education and research.
